10 Reasons to Take a Summer Trip to the Windy City
10 Reasons to Take a Summer Trip to the Windy City Itâs the town the Sunday Billy couldnât shut down, where the wind off of the great lakes sometimes whips around the tall buildings and almost knocks you over, and where art, history and the heart of America combine. This Midwest hub of activity makes Chicago one of the top cities you should visit this Summer. A Beach and City in One Chicago is situated on the southwest shores of Lake Michigan. This means you can spend time in a metropolitan setting, but within minutes have your shoes off and toes in the sand at the beach. On warm summer days, the beach is filled with strolling couples and sunbathers. Boats dot the shoreline. Locals simply call it âthe lake.â While here, you may want to: Bike the paths Take a boat for a sail Cross the street for dinner or to visit some of the local parks Amazing Architecture Another reason many people visit Chicago, Illinois is to take in the varied and unique architecture. Not only has the overall level of Chicago been raised, which is an engineering marvel in itself, but above the ground is where the real building art begins. The city boasts buildings by famous architects such as Frank Lloyd Wright. Some buildings were destroyed in the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, but architects have made up for that with truly original pieces, such as the Aqua Tower, which looks like waves of water all around. Some other buildings to see while in town include: Sears Tower Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies Hancock Tower Museums Galore If the thought of spending the day learning a bit of history or science, or viewing art makes your heart flutter with the delight, Chicago is home to a wide variety of museums, from history to art to cultural museums. Chicago Traveler recommends starting with the Field Museum of Natural History. The museum is home to the Tyrannosaurus Rex named Sue, which is the biggest and most complete dinosaur specimen ever discovered. Youâll also want to take in: Museum of Science and Industry Art Institute of Chicago Lincoln Park Conservatory Shop âtil You Drop Chicago offers shopping options that will call your name. The Navy Pier is one unique place to stop for souvenirs to take home. Youâll find a food court and shops. It sits on 50 acres and includes cruises off the pier, garden areas to walk through, live music and an Imax theater to pass some time. Restaurants include: Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Billy Goat Tavern Jimmy Buffetts Margaritaville Deep Dish Pizza When you think Chicagoâs history, you likely think of deep dish Chicago pizza. You cant get pizza like this anywhere else. Imagine a thick crust piled high with cheese and toppings, fresh and hot from a steaming oven. Although many different Chicago pizzerias try to take credit for creating the first deep dish pizza pie, the truth is that no one knows for sure. The key is to find the best deep dish pie possible. Keep in mind: The more toppings the better. The sauce is all important. Stuffed crust is a bonus. Sports Catches Fire The people of Chicago love their sports. Even if you donât normally like sports all that much, try to attend at least one game while in the Windy city. Not only will you see a landmark building, such as that at Wrigley Field, but youâll get a real feel for the heart and soul of the city. Professional teams include: Blackhawks Bulls Cubs White Sox Designer Shopping If you want to dress to impress, the Magnificent Mile is the place to head. The stores run along Michigan Avenue on the north side. Here, youll find: Neiman Marcus Tiffany Co. Bloomingdales Saks Fifth Avenue Of course, there are many other stores in this area, as well as buildings like the Trump Hotel and Towers and Palmolive Building. Theater Scene Chicago has an excellent theater scene that includes everything from small independent theaters to Broadway shows. It is also home to musical theater festivals and a home theater festival. Chicagoans love theater and it shows in the many different options that will keep you entertained while visiting the city. A few theaters to check out: Chicago Shakespeare Theater Briar Street Theater Apollo Theater Mainstage Cadillac Palace Theater Unique Hot Dogs If you havenât eaten a Chicago style hot dog, then youâve not really lived. Sure, it is full of calories and other things not so healthy for you, but how many times do you get a chance to visit Chicago and eat whatever you want? What exactly tops a Chicago hot dog? Green relish Onions Mustard Tomato Pickled peppers Possibly a dill pickle Never any ketchup Grant Park Grant Park sits on 319 acres and is known throughout the city as its front yard. During warm weather, it is a hub of activity and connects Buckingham Fountain, Millennium Park and Museum Campus. There are festivals most weekends, including Lollapalooza and other music festivals. Other events include: The Taste of Chicago Grant Park Music Festival Chicago Marathon Whether visiting for one of the many business conventions held in Chicago or simply taking a quick vacation, Chicago is filled with enough attractions to suit nearly any taste. It is filled with people from many cultures and offers Chinatown, Little Italy and Greektown, to name a few. Your only problem when visiting this city will be fitting in everything you want to do.

How Do I Build a Website - Classy Career Girl
How Do I Build a Website Welcome to CCGTV! This is a daily video show where I answer your questions! Every weekday on YouTube, Iâll be answering YOUR questions and I am super excited!! If you have a question you would like me to answer on a future episode of CCGTV, leave a comment below or email me at anna@classycareergirl.com. I have a domain. How do I build a website? -Cassandra Its really not that complicated to get started building your website. Thats how I started and I continue to update and change my website myself. This article is just going to be a basic overview of the steps you need to take. We arent going to get too technical but if you want to get more technical, make sure you check out this post- How to Start a Blog in One Hour or Less. Here is the overview because I think you just need to know the steps to take first. Note: There are a lot of different ways you can build a website these days and a lot of new companies popping up trying to make it easy for you. Make sure you do your homework and choose the right platform first because its hard to change later on down the road. I would rather put in a little work up front rather than go the easy way and face a mess of a situation a few months or a year in when you want to change your site. I have built a lot of different websites and use the same exact process every single time. It has worked really worked well for me. I also was able to turn my websites into e-learning platforms and membership communities just by following the steps below to begin with. Pick a platform that can grow with you. How to Build a Website 1. Get a Domain The first thing you need to do is purchase your domain. The cost of this is low at about $10 per year. Since in step 2 I recommend Bluehost, I would recommend just purchasing your domain through bluehost as well to make it easy. 2. Create a WordPress.org Hosted Site. I recommend using Bluehost to get started. I used Bluehost for the first 5 years of my blog and business. If you have a bigger website with more traffic like we have had recently, youll want to look at different options. What is going to happen is that Bluehost is then going to host your site. Usually this is about $100 a year. 3. Install WordPress Onto Your Self-hosted Website WordPress.org is what you will log into and what you will write your blog posts into. You can design it in WordPress and pick your colors and your font. WordPress is where you will also upload your photos into and create all of your website pages. You can easily upload WordPress.org through Bluehost directly. Click here for my tutorial. 4. Pick Your WordPress Theme Now, its time to upload your theme onto your WordPress site. Themes are what makes your website look how you want it to look like. There are different options and its really nice because you dont have to figure out all of the coding yourself. There are some free themes but most of the time youll have to pay for them. We recommend Studiopress. Then you have your new site! You can now complete your website creation and add your services and blog pages all through WordPress. Time to start blogging! If you want to sell a product or service, you can add your purchase links with PayPal onto your website or use a WordPress plugin to help you. This is really the basics. Dont get overwhelmed. If I can do a simple blog post explaining the process, its not that difficult as you might think. I am so glad I decided to create this website back in 2010. I say go for it. You never know what can happen by putting that first blog post out there.

How To Use A Federal Resume Template
How To Use A Federal Resume TemplateFederal resumes are not the same as any other. This means that when you are sending one, you want to make sure that you use a Federal resume template that will make your resume look great. But first you want to learn the basic rules for these templates and how they can benefit you. There are many reasons why you might need a Federal resume template, and the reason is quite simple - it should be in the general look of a resume. If you know you are going to be submitting an online resume then a federal resume template is the perfect fit. However, if you are going to be submitting a resume with a resume paper, there are other options available as well. Regardless, of the format you will still need to be very specific about what you want to be included on your resume. The federal resume template should have the following components. First, it should have some information that is formatted for federal hiring. Secondly, it should show that you know the bas ics of using the Federal government to help individuals. The common information that is formatted for federal employment would include an introduction that includes a summary of your qualifications. The paragraph could talk about your experience and what you have done in the past. The third line of the paragraph should include what you have done and how much you have done. The next part of this template would include any important information that you feel should be included on your resume. For example, you might include information about any awards you might have won, awards you have received, or any special areas you have worked. These types of information can be included in a federal resume template, but you need to include them on a separate resume if you are going to be using a paper resume. The informational section should also be included in a federal resume template. This part would contain any special skills or experience that you have acquired. These are the type of things th at you might want to put in this section in your online resume. To make sure that you do not go overboard, you should carefully consider how much information you want to put in the informational section. The last section that is needed for a federal resume template is the career section. This section will show what job you might be looking for. However, you should take the time to really consider what area you are trying to find a job in.When you are trying to find a federal resume template, make sure that it meets the requirements that were outlined above. This is the best way to ensure that you are submitting a resume that looks good.

Twice Ive Been Hired During the Month of December
Twice Ive Been Hired During the Month of December Twice Ive Been Hired During the Month of December Twice Ive Been Hired During the Month of December November 10, 2013 by Career Coach Sherri Thomas Leave a Comment If youâre out searching for a job, but thinking about stopping your job search during the months of November and December because nobody is hiring â" think again. That would be a BIG mistake. Twice in my career, Iâve been hired during the month of December. No, Iâm not talking about temporary jobs like stocking holiday sweaters at the local Gap store or delivering holiday packages for UPS. Iâm talking about real, permanent, full-time job offers I received with large marketing and advertising agencies. There are three great reasons why itâs actually EASIER to get hired in the months of November and December, than any other time of the year â" First, many companies may still have budget left for 2103. Many organizations have an infrastructure in place of âUse it or lose itâ, meaning that if they donât use up their dollars that have already been budgeted and approved for hiring new employees, then that money will be gone on January 1, 2014. Second, companies want to gear up for 2014. Many organizations want to hire new employees now so that they can hit the ground running at the beginning of the year. Third, there is less competition. Many job candidates stop searching for jobs or go on vacation (because they believe the myth that nobody is hiring during the holidays) so the competitive pool is much smaller. Which means that the odds are in your favor ?? Hereâs a tip â" if you get invited to an interview during the holidays and you want that job, and you need that job â" then make it a priority. Figure out a way to go to that interview and then go see your Aunt Betty in Minneapolis. Or, if itâs a phone interview, donât let them hear your brother-in-law laughing in the background to the cat getting fried in National Lampoonâs Christmas Vacation. So how did I get hired? Networking. I went to every holiday party, event and mixer I could find. At first, I felt really awkward saying that I didnât have a job, but then I just started owning it saying something like, âActually, Iâm looking to take that next step in my career right now, and looking for opportunities asâ¦â an Account Manager, or as a copywriter, or whatever. I also called up old friends and colleagues and started the conversation by saying, âHey, I just wanted to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!â Most people are in a more relaxed and sociable mindset during the holidays (even department managers, hiring managers and company leaders), which makes it easier to connect, and easier to ask for job leads, referrals and recommendations. For one of my job offers, I called up the President of the company who I use to work for and asked if he could look over my resume to offer me any advice. That phone conversation led to a meeting, which then led to two interviews, and a job offer the day of his holiday office party. a narrative essay So if youâre looking for a new job this holiday season, then rev up your job search by putting on your best holiday sweater and going out to socialize. Who knows, maybe youâll get a nice beefy paycheck in your stocking this Christmas! ?? zp8497586rq

How to Gain Respect at Work
How to Gain Respect at Work Do you feel respected by the people you work with? Do you respect your boss? What about your employer?Being able to garner respect at work is one of those important intangibles that can make all the difference in your ability to get things done. Recently on my show Making a Living with Maggie on Martha Stewart Living Radio, I focused on specific steps to getting more respect with productivity expert Niyi Taiwo author of Respect: Gaining It and Sustaining It. Heres what he had to say about gaining respect:You must demonstrate respect for others if you want it for yourself. Sounds simple but sometimes we dont respect the people we have to work for and with. What then? Niyis advice even if you cant respect the person, respect the position. Your boss deserves a certain level of respect just for being in the position. If you can respect the role and the control he/she has over your job, you will act in a more respectful way and that can only help you garner more respect.Be a performance employee. According to Niyi, performing well consistently is key to sustaining respect. His definition of performance goes beyond being competent. A performance employee is one who projects a positive attitude and finds the upside or opportunity in every challenge. Performing well also entails energy and drive, understanding what motivates you and aligning your work with those values. As Niyi points so aptly points out, Success without respect if very hollow. Its also more difficult because you dont get the support you need from others. Try boosting your own levels of respect by finding ways to respect others and managing your own performance well. And if you have more ideas on gaining and sustaining respect, share them. I respect your opinion!
